Rules for Study Patient Population and Grantwriting

The patient population includes a description of the study population with respect to age, gender, race, ethnicity, and clinical status as appropriate for the study. This includes a description of the number of subjects, type of subjects (patient population), and date parameters that the principal investigator is targeting for this study).

  • The study population includes a description of the demographic, cultural, educational, and other challenges that set this target population apart from society at large.
  • The inclusion criteria for the study includes a listing of the disease or disorder that the principal investigator is proposing to study, how the disease will it be documented (i.e. diagnostic methods, criteria for classification, etc.), and demographic characteristics (e.g., gender, age) as applicable. 
  • Inclusion dates can also be included, such as those patients seen between 1/1/10 and 6/1/11.
  • Exclusion criteria should be included such as specific clinical contraindications and their signs or symptoms or mediciations.
  • Describe the study population with respect to age, gender, race, ethnicity, and clinical status as appropriate for the study. You should also mention the targeted/planned enrollment table.
